What's Pulling The Strings Behind Your Hair, Skin, Sleep & Hormones?
What’s pulling the strings behind your hair, skin, hormones and sleep quality?
Your liver.
The liver controls the body’s levels of sex hormones, thyroid hormones, cortisone and other adrenal hormones. It catalyzes or removes any excess hormones from the body - a vital function for proper physical and emotional wellbeing.
A key player in this functionality is fat.
One of my Wildatarin “Big Four”, fat is found in animal proteins, seafood, dairy, nuts, seeds, oils and some fruits and vegetables, like swiss chard, carrots and avocados.
In order to break down fats, the body must have adequate levels of digestive enzymes - chemical agents that “unzip” the molecular structure of fats, as well as bile produced in the liver, allowing them to be transformed into stored energy, brain matter, and yep, you guessed it - hormones.
When the body is unable to contend with the amount of fat we are ingesting, or lacks the enzyme concentrations or bile to process fats in general, we can find ourselves feeling sluggish, bloated, sleeping irregularly, and dealing with acne, period problems, and even hair loss.
To reverse this cycle, we have to look to liver-supportive and emulsifying techniques:
- Adapt your diet to reduce your fat intake or modify the kinds of fats you are eating. Reduce high-fat foods like lamb, salmon, shrimp, soft cheese, yogurt and most nuts, including Brazil, cashews, walnuts and pecans.
- Promote healthy enzyme and bile production by taking plant enzymes with meals - I like bromelain, bitters or papaya-derived papain.
- For hormone trouble, consider taking a fat-supportive supplement like Now Formulas choline inositol, which helps the body reduce the accumulation of triglycerides in the liver.
- Mineralize & hydrate! Ensure your body is supplied with emulsifying sea salt and plenty of water to help stimulate digestion & “scrub” out excess fats - Twice daily Wild-Lytes is a simple and effective way to achieve this.
