Meet Our Amazing Naturopathic Doctor, Carla!
Meet our newest practitioner, Carla Montrond-Correia, N.D.
Carla joined our practice in June of 2018, and trained directly with Teri to become fluent in The Cochrane Method®. Carla earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of St. Joseph in Connecticut, her Masters in Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Physiology from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and completed her Naturopathic Medicine Degree in May 2018 from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
If you aren’t familiar with Naturopathy, it is a branch of the medical profession that truly embodies all the principles we espouse here at Beyond Nutrition. It combines modern science with more traditional healing modalities to bring people back to health. Naturopathic doctors believe in allowing the body to heal itself by focusing on root causes and on treating the whole person. This type of medicine follows a key principle – “First do No Harm”. NDs (naturopathic doctors) are licensed to practice as primary care providers in many states in the United States as more and more people recognize the value in their approach.
Carla complemented her robust formal education with several extracurriculars and internships in the wellness space. She took part in her Naturopathic university’s Student Government and served as a student representative for a large, international supplement company. Carla also completed internships with chiropractors, integrative practitioners and Ayurvedic healers during her time in education to further broaden her knowledge of Naturopathic medicine.
Carla's Story & Specialties
Carla is one of eight children with three younger and four older siblings. Her family is originally from Cape Verde off the Western coast of Africa, and she is bilingual – fluent in Cape Verdean Creole as well as English. Carla’s passion for food and traditional remedies was sparked by her parents who taught her to rely on nature first to provide what we need. Her family lives on their own farm, growing grapes and figs, and raising their own animals!
With formal training in herbal medicine, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, physical medicine, nutrigenomics and reiki, Carla's breadth as a practitioner extends across disciplines for an approach to health that is truly one of a kind. Outside of her professional interests, Carla loves spending time at the beach, or any space in nature. She's always sure to make time for artistic activities, yoga and a daily meditation practice.
If you haven’t had a chance to experience a consult with Carla, we can’t wait for you to meet her. She truly is an amazing addition to our practice!
To The Tru Of You,
Teri Cochrane
