Bounce Back From Autumn Allergies

Itchy eyes? Runny nose? Cross reactions with food? It feels like allergy season never goes away.

This fall from hay fever and ragweed to mold from the falling leaves, swollen joints and inflammation, allergies and allergic reactions can manifest in mysterious and complex ways. Worse yet, sometimes the standard solutions can be just as irritating and toxic!

To help you navigate this novel allergy season, here are some tried and true tips sent with love from our practice to you.

  • For general allergic “muck” and inflammation — aka your run-of-the-mill itchy eyes, runny nose, etc. — try taking Quercetin. Quercetin is a naturally occurring flavonoid (you can find it in small doses in fruits and vegetables) and a natural antihistamine with anti-inflammatory properties. Quercetin can reduce the symptoms of allergies without burdening the liver and therefore makes a great alternative to standard antihistamines. NOW Formulas carries a fantastic blend that we regularly suggest to our clients.

  • Avoid cross-reactive foods. In our practice, we look first to natural, food-based solutions to our most common health problems. During allergy season, one of the easiest steps you can take to reduce allergy symptoms is to reduce your intake of cross-reactive foods. During the autumn, or mold season, this can mean limiting bananas, cucumbers, melons, everything in the pea family and especially peanuts, mushrooms and aged cheeses.

  • Invest in quality immune support. When allergies hit hard, our immune systems can be taxed. If you don’t have a strong immune system foundation to work from, your body’s response to seasonal triggers like mold and ragweed could be overwhelming and leave you inflamed, imbalanced and with sub-optimal immune function. As always, I suggest using a daily immune support formula that’s right for your body, to provide protection year-round. If you’re looking for that perfect Wildatarian-approved solution, my personal blend, Immune Mover, is an excellent option.

  • Give yourself room to breathe. In both my home and in my practice, I keep an Air Doctor running almost 24/7. Unless you live in an extremely remote location, chances are you’re exposed daily to heavy metals and deleterious pollutants through car exhaust, air travel, smoke or dust. And even if you live in a remote location those mold spores are everywhere. Curating healthy air quality in the places where you spend the most time can be particularly helpful when you suffer from allergy symptoms that are easily compounded by underlying poor air quality and those nasty mold spores. The Air Doctor has already helped so many of our clients. It’s a true game changer!
