Get to know your growers and ask the right questions.
As a general rule, Farmers’ Markets provide fresh, locally or regionally grown food that is colorful and nutritious. It is still, however, worth the conversation to ask whether or not the farmers spray their crops. I frequent my local Farmer’s market and always ask. They are alway, at least in my experience, honest.
Apples are in season but today I asked some growers whether or not they sprayed. Most did. The farm featured in the photo is a vegetable farm only. They use organic standards only, but are not certified because of their smaller size. They are coined a term “Ecoganic”. I purchased all my produce from them today.
Take advantage of Farmer’s markets in your local area, but start this important conversation.
